How much does a website cost in Malaysia? An honest 2026 breakdown

A website's cost in Malaysia is the build plus the yearly cost of keeping it online: a domain, hosting and care. Always ask for both numbers. At EDC, a 5-page Starter Website is RM 2,500 with the first year of hosting and care included, and custom Business Websites are from RM 5,000.

What are you paying for when you buy a website?

Five things: the build, a domain name, hosting with a secure padlock (SSL), care to keep it working, and any extras. A quote that looks low usually leaves one of these out or charges for it later.

  • Build: the design, the pages, WhatsApp buttons, the mobile layout and basic SEO.
  • Domain: your .com.my or .my address, renewed every year.
  • Hosting and SSL: where the site lives, and the padlock browsers expect.
  • Care: security updates, backups, fixes and small changes.
  • Extras: photography, writing, a Bahasa Malaysia version, bookings or an online store.

Why does the first year cost more than later years?

The first year carries the build; later years only carry the running costs. When you compare quotes, add up the first-year total and the yearly cost after that, not just the build price.

EDC's prices are first-year prices: the build plus a full year of care. After year one, care is optional: Basic RM 180/month (or RM 1,800/year) or Standard RM 350/month (or RM 3,150/year). Domain and email are billed to you directly, with no mark-up.

How much does a domain name cost in Malaysia?

A .com.my or .my domain is usually under RM 120 a year at Malaysian registrars. Check the renewal price, not just the first-year promotion, and make sure the domain is registered in your business's name.

Malaysian (.my) domains are sold through registrars accredited by MYNIC, the .my registry. At EDC you pay for your domain directly, at cost and with no mark-up, so it is always yours.

What makes one website cost more than another?

Mostly the amount of work: how many pages, whether the design is custom or from a template, how many languages, and whether the site needs to sell, take bookings or connect to other systems.

  • Pages: a 5-page site is a very different job from a 30-page one.
  • Design: a template made for your trade is faster than a design made from zero.
  • Languages: English plus Bahasa Malaysia means more writing and checking.
  • Features: an online store, bookings, member logins or links to other systems.
  • Content: whether you supply the photos and text, or they need to be made.

How much does an online store cost?

Count the build and the platform. At EDC an Online Store is from RM 5,500 plus the store platform fee, with the first year of care included. EasyStore lists its Standard plan at RM 249 a month on monthly billing. EasyStore adds no transaction fee, but payment providers do.

The store sits in your own platform account, so you pay the platform directly. Longer billing periods on EasyStore cost less per month; check their pricing page for the current figures.

Why are some website quotes much cheaper?

Usually because something is missing or comes later: hosting after the first months, backups, a privacy notice, or every change charged one by one. A cheap quote can be fine. Just ask in writing what is and isn't included.

What should you ask before paying for a website?

Ask five things in writing: the total for the first year, the yearly cost after that, whose name the domain is in, what happens if you leave, and how the payment is split. A good provider answers all five clearly.

Our own answers to all five are on our homepage FAQ and on every service page.
